The Fist day of Spring
When Phoebe awoke on the first day of spring, what she
wanted to do the most was take Lola outside to play. But, when she peered into
the bassinette, she didn’t find a happy baby. Phoebe’s little sister was
crying. Before they could go out for a new adventure, Lola needed to turn that
frown upside down.
“When I’m sad,” Phoebe said, “I like to sing a song.” So
Phoebe sung the tune she loved the most with an “E-I-E-I-Oh,” doing her best to
stay on key. But, Lola could not sing.
“Maybe I will read her my favorite book,” She thought and
ran to the shelf to retrieve the little white hardback with the polar bear on
the front. Yet, even though she did her best to say all of the words right and
make all the appropriate animal noises, Lola continued to weep.
Finally, she remembered that when nothing else helped,
Phoebe snuggled with her teddy bear and it always made her feel better. So she
retrieved her toy and brought it to the bassinette. Strangely, her trusty bear
had no effect on little Lola.
It was at that moment when an idea came to mind.
“Lola needs her own teddy,” She decided. But, where to get
one?
She tore through the toy chest in search for a new bear with
no luck. She did, however, find an old sweater, some stuffing and a couple of
buttons.
“If I glue this together and put sew the buttons here…” she
rambled on as she got to work. She used a needle and thread (with some help
from her mom) and put it all together. Last, but not least, she pulled a heart
shaped stamp out of her craft box and marked the little stuffed toy with love.
Proudly, Phoebe presented her sister with her very own stuffed bear.
The moment Lola snuggled next to the toy, her tears dried up
and a smile spread across her face.
“Are you ready to go out into the sunshine now?” She asked
the beaming face looking up at her. Her response was an affirming giggle of
joy. At last, the adventure could begin.
